Vermin; 1968 Tunnel Rats

A while back, Uwe Boll revealed his newest project; a movie with a game to follow, both with the same story. 1968 Tunnel Rats was the project’s name. It was to be based on the American soldiers in Vietnam whose job was to clear out the massive underground tunnel systems. Hints the name “Tunnel Rats“. Lets just say that this is looking slightly better than his previous movies, not to mention that he’s not ruining another game’s story, but rather using a unique one. But remember, we are not interested in the movie, but rather the first-person shooter of the same name to follow the release of the movie being developed by Replay Studios (Velvet Assassin). The plan was to release the game and movie simultaneously, perhaps in a box set.

I couldn’t dig up anything about the game, but I found a few sites that lists the 1968 Tunnel Rats movie for a January 5th 2009 ship date. We can only assume since Uwe wants to get as close of a release as possible, the game (Xbox 360, PC) will soon be following. Having said that, I have heard some rumors of the movie already available via questionable means of acquisition. Possibly the game has some delays or maybe these reports that I got are incorrect. Whatever the case, it’s a game I’m looking forward to. Don’t ask me why I’m looking forward to it, since all of Uwe’s previous attempts at movies have been punishing on the gaming community. Why should I think that his gaming ideas are any better? I do believe that he’s learning from his mistakes, but is that enough?
I’m not just tearing into him because I hate him or anything like that. I actually liked the Postal movie. I thought it stayed pretty faithful to the games and was a good representation of them. That’s not to say it was a good movie, but it was a good video game-to-movie adaption. Hopefully he’ll keep it up in the future, for the gamers.
