NASA Likely to Give Away Space Shuttles
By Craig Lloyd on Dec 17th, 2008 at 8:49PM
In a press release, NASA is thinking about giving away their space shuttles once the program ends in 2010. They are accepting ideas on what to do with the space shuttles from professional organizations such as museums, science centers, and other institutions. NASA currently has two space shuttle orbiters and at least six unassembled space shuttle main engine display “kits” to hand out.
NASA’s goal is to see whether displaying these flying machines can be used in the “national interest to inspire the American public and students in particular.” It would definitely interest me, but I have no inspiration on becoming an astronaut. Well….only during math class.
If you think you have some intelligent input, you have until March 17, 2009 to make a statement.
Also, don’t expect these space shuttles to fly once you get one. And don’t expect an astronaut to come with the package to fly it for you.
