Gears of War Broken?

Epic games seem to have inadvertently shot themselves in the foot yesterday when their digital certification for Gears of War (PC) expired, as it was scheduled to. Thus rendering the game unplayable, displaying the following message: ‘You cannot run this game with modified executable code, please reinstall’. According to one of the Moderators on Epic’s forums:
Yes, this was a surprise to us too. We have been notified of the issue and are working with Microsoft to get it resolved. Sorry for any problems related to this.
If you are one of the many that is affected by this problem, rest assured, the problem has been identified and a fix is in the works.
Does this mean that years from now if we want to play our old games to remember the good ol times we won’t be able to? Freakin microsoft.

Well, if that does ever happen and it seems more then likely to happen, I’m sure there will be some *ahem* software that will avoid it. And if you legally own the game, then such an action will be well within legal rights to do so.
