iPod Touch Catches Kid’s Pants On Fire

An Ohio mom is suing Apple on behalf of her son, whose iPod Touch “popped” and caught on fire in his pocket and began to torch his pants. The Touch burnt through his pants pocket and his underwear before he was treated for second degree burns on his leg. According to the lawsuit, “He continues to suffer from both physical and mental conditions which will cause him to suffer pain, mental distress, emotional distress, and otherwise for the rest of his life.” The lawsuit also randomly lists 10 Apple retail employees and wants $150,000+ and attorney fees in damages.
I’ve heard of the charging cables catching on fire, but this is a first that I’ve heard of an iPod Touch exploding and causing a mini electrical fire. It’s especially odd because the lawsuit states that the iPod was off at the time of the incident.

Did the screen brake or something? That’s weird.

Chances are the battery was faulty, or overcharged. Causing it to rupture and releasing it’s caustic chemicals. When I first saw this story, I didn’t know that it actually caught fire, I thought it just ate through his clothes.
Now that I think about it, that would explain why it is “Second-degree burns” and not “Acid burns”
