It’s been a while since Tech Olive has configured an up-to-date “Dream Rig”, so we decided to scout out the best of the best in the latest hardware for our fantasy machine. Enjoy!
Intel 3.2GHz Core i7 965 Extreme – $1,020
- Can’t touch this….
EVGA X58 Motherboard – $300
- Supports Core i7, DDR3, and Dual/Tri SLI and Crossfire X. What more could you want?
Noctua 120mm SSO CPU Cooler – $85
- We needed something that would tame the Core i7′s temperature. This should do the trick.
Corsair Dominator 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 Triple Channel Memory Kit – $176
- We bumped it up to 6GB this time…because we can.
Dual EVGA GeForce GTX 295 Video Cards – $1,020
- Finally! Nvidia is back on top! We’re also dualin’ it of course.
Western Digital VelociRaptor 300GB 10,000RPM Hard Drive – $230
- It’s still not yet time to rely on SSDs….
Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB Hard Drive – $300
- 2TB should be enough storage to store just about everything imaginable.
Sony 8X Blu-ray Burner – $400
- Can’t beat high-definition along with 8X write speeds.
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer 7.1 Channel Sound Card – $90
- Gaming isn’t gaming without quality sound.
Antec Twelve Hundred Full Tower Computer Case – $215
- We still can’t seem to let go of this case.
PC Power & Cooling 1200W Power Supply – $600
- This might be over-doing it, but we just want to make sure our dream rig is powered properly.
Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit – $180
- This will have to do until Windows 7 comes out.
TOTAL COST: $4,616
