Review: Faerie Solitaire (PC)

faerie

When I was contacted by the developer of Faerie Solitaire, I was unconvinced that I wanted to review it. From the videos he had sent me, it looked great and had a very unique take on the classic game, but I was still unsure if I would have much to say about such a game. I had doubt that it would be able to keep my interest. Luckily, I decided to accept the review offer and here I am, reminding myself once again that I should stop underestimating indie games.

Early DOOM Footage Revealed

doom

John Romero, developer of DOOM, has made a post on his blog with a (roughly) 30-minute video of ID Software back when they where developing DOOM. The first half is quite interesting, but it’s not until they show a demo of an early build of DOOM, long before the public were to see it. That is when it gets very interesting. To hear them talking about the graphical enhancements and the gameplay elements that they had built into this game is something special. To hear the passion and excitement in their voices is really captivating. If only we could get this excited about current games.

Conficker is History

typing

Who here was infected or know someone that was infected by the Conficker virus? I saw no trace of it either.

It’s now been almost a week since the Conficker threat “officially” launched on April Fool’s Day. To what we know, the catastrophic digital threat was nothing but an exaggeration that was beaten to death. If it was, in fact, an actual threat, no one really knows what its capabilities are. It could very well be just a normal virus that over 3 million computers get infected with each day. Whatever its potential may be, the internet and its users are still alive and well.

By any means, it never hurts to update your anti-virus, just in case serious karma sets in.

Feel free to share your short silly rants as well.

Computer Explosion Kills Engineer

A young software engineer was killed in a mysterious computer blast at his home in Velachery, India late last Friday. The incident took place when Vijayakumar (28) was working on the computer.

“We are yet to ascertain the cause of the blast. The computer was completely damaged and the deceased was charred,” a police officer said about the incident. Vijayakumar was sharing the house with two other software engineers, Vignesh (26) and Ram Prasad (26). “Ram Prasad had gone to take a bath. He told us that suddenly he heard a blast and when he rushed out, he saw the charred body of his friend and fainted. It sounds quite unbelievable. We have not heard of such a case before. But the scene of the accident seems to suggest that the youth was killed in an accident as his body was in the sitting position in front of the burnt computer,” the official added”

Electrolysis How-To

Over the years you’ve probably learned that water and electricity don’t mix, also fire and hydrogen gas don’t mix. Well, I decided to go against the rules to see what would happen. As it turns out, given a 9 volt battery and some Epsom salts you can take completely harmless water and produce explosive gas!

Review: Wanted: Weapons of Fate (PC)

pic01

You would think that after my recent experiences reviewing Wheelman and Watchmen, I would learn that movie-based games are not quite my cup of tea, but it seems that I adore the abuse because here I am again, reviewing Wanted: Weapons of Fate. Is it my fate to be drawn to games that have almost no chance at being good? Will I ever learn? Well, I do it for you, my readers. So here we go, yet another movie-based game to add to the variety that feeds my gaming addiction hobby.

call-of-duty

Treyarch’s community manager, Josh Olin, recently announced that the PC release of ‘Map Pack 1′ will not only be free, but will also be bundled with the newest patch, 1.4. This is the same map pack that was released last month to console players. Unfortunately, there is still no release date for the patch.

The map pack adds three new multiplayer maps (Nightfire, Station, and Knee Deep) and one new zombie map (Zombie Verruckt, based on the original Asylum map), which features a new ‘Perks-a-Cola’ machine.
