Review: Faerie Solitaire (PC)
By Tim Hage on Apr 8th, 2009 at 6:39PM

When I was contacted by the developer of Faerie Solitaire, I was unconvinced that I wanted to review it. From the videos he had sent me, it looked great and had a very unique take on the classic game, but I was still unsure if I would have much to say about such a game. I had doubt that it would be able to keep my interest. Luckily, I decided to accept the review offer and here I am, reminding myself once again that I should stop underestimating indie games.

I’m sure at this point readers are still a bit skeptical and that is understandable. Could someone really take the game that anyone has spent countless hours playing and change it to make it even better? In short, the answer is yes. In Faerie Solitaire, enough of the original game has been changed so it gives the feeling of new and fresh. The game still manages to keep itself simple enough for you to easily learn and enjoy playing it.

In the main gameplay mode, Adventure, you play through levels that each consist of nine hands. In each level, you are given a challenge to complete. By the time you have completed your ninth hand of that level, you must have that challenge completed. If not, then you must restart the level and play through the nine hands again, trying to achieve whatever challenge you have been given. There are also little ‘eye-spy’ challenges throughout the levels. They seem a bit out of place, but they are a nice break to the card game.

At this point, if you’re still reading, I’m sure you’re still thinking “but at the end of the day, it’s just another Solitaire game.” It’s so much more. Most Solitaire (read: all) are there to pass time, something to do when you’re bored. This game is so addicting that you will wish you had more time. It was hard to find time to play my other review games while I had this installed. It is very hard to properly explain this game. I really suggest you just buy it or try the demo. The only problem with that is the demo has not yet been released, but if you are interested, keep an eye on the official site as they are planning to release the demo soon!

As with any Solitaire game, it is a fantastic tool to waste time and avoid bordem. It’s also fantastically addicting.

Really addicting and relaxing.

I love this game. The free hour trial was addicting. I can’t buy it right now, because the 19.95 is too much. I don’t want the monthly plan either yet for a little while, but this game is so exciting and addicting.
