Intel Fined $1.45 Billion in Antitrust Case
By Craig Lloyd on May 13th, 2009 at 1:52PM
The verdict is in and as expected, the European Union fined Intel a record $1.45 billion due to violation of antitrust laws in Europe. This fine surpasses the old record of the $676 million fine given to Microsoft awhile back.
Intel has harmed millions of European consumers by deliberately acting to keep competitors out of the market for computer chips for many years. –European Union Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes.
Intel (shocker!) appealed the decision and immediately fired back by saying the commission “is wrong and ignores the reality of a highly competitive microprocessor marketplace,” and that its practices have caused, “absolutely zero harm to consumers.”

Looks like someone is an AMD fanboy. I like AMD too, but this is just silly. I hope intel wins.

You really don’t think it’s wrong for a company to basically pay corporations to not use their competitor’s product?
[Reply]
Yeah, it may not be exactly “harmful” to the consumers, but it is against business morals and harmful to the entire market. It’s not about who prefers which brand, it’s about Intel crossing the line. I hope they get charged the whole amount, they should be punished and should be made an example of. (perhaps spankings later)

Tim your just saying that because your an AMD user!

I’m sure if Tim could, he would switch to Intel, but he would have to buy a whole new motherboard and CPU obviously, which is a lot of money.
