Review: Tunnel Rats (PC)

tunnelrats0

I’m sure that almost none of you have ever heard of Tunnel Rats (Formerly titled 1968 Tunnel Rats), but I have actually been paying attention to this game for several months now. Truth be told, I was assured by the mind behind the game (Mr. Uwe Boll himself) that I would receive an early review copy. Well, I didn’t. So, already starting on the wrong foot, let’s see how the game is…..

Review: Plants vs. Zombies

popcapgame1-2009-05-18-17-13-28-93introe

I’m not usually a fan of the Tower Defense genre, so I was a little weary to try out Pop Cap Games’ latest, Plants vs. Zombies. After watching a few friends playing and enjoying it, I decided to give it a try for myself.

Sure, it doesn’t have the latest and greatest graphics like other games of today, and the idea of plants fighting to save your life might be a little silly, but Plants vs. Zombies is a game that you should definitely check out. Here’s why.

windows7

With Windows 7 nearing release, it seems everyone is looking forward to it due to its speed and stability advantages over Vista. But Dell says there’s one problem with Windows 7, and it could be a big one.

“If there’s one thing that may influence adoption, make things slower, or cause customers to pause, it’s that generally the average selling price of the operating systems are higher than they were for Vista and XP.” –Darrel Ward, director of product management for Dell’s business client product group.

Ward also mentions that due to tough economic times, it’s “naive” for Microsoft to increase its prices and still see increased sales.

“I can tell you that the licensing tiers at retail are more expensive than they were for Vista,” Ward said.

Ward did note that the momentum behind Windows 7 is much bigger than it was with Vista and driver readiness looks “pretty healthy.”

With the recent announcement of the next game in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, Call Of Pripyat, those who enjoyed the previous games where awakened. I’m glad to say that I’ve got some news to feed you. First of all, if you’ve never played the original, Shadow of Chernobyl, than you can do so now for FREE. Yup, the game has now hit GameTap, from which you can download and play the game 100% free of charge.

On top of that great news, the first video of Call of Pripyat has been released. Believe it or not, it is full of actual gameplay. No lame, pre-rendered video. It looks like your typical S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game (which is a good thing) and it seems to have much better animations and a smoother feel. Maybe, before too long, we’ll be given a demo. Watch the video below.

“Meet The Spy” Video Leaked

tf21

Apparently just leaked (I don’t know the details), the “Meet The Spy” video is upon us! I didn’t think it was possible for the boys behind Team Fortress 2 to top the “Meet The Sniper” video, but it seems they have epically topped it with this new video. These videos are so insanely awesome. I think the animators behind them should seriously consider making a full-length movie based on theĀ  TF2 world.

DIY: Easy Fan Controller

I’ll have to thank Craig for this one, as he was having some trouble coming up with a way to variable control an extra fan he had. A quick explanation later to him, and I realized I should share the knowledge with everyone.

casio

I really don’t talk much about the point-n-shoot camera market much, but the new EX-FS10 from Casio is something to be intrigued about. Granted, it has the same image quality as most point-n-shoots, shooting at 9 megapixels with a 3x optical zoom, but it’s the video features that makes the EX-FS10 stand out from the rest. It shoots in 720p HD and can capture 1,000FPS in slow motion. It also features a shutter-lag correction setting and a burst mode for still images.

Next Tony Hawk Game Announced

tony

Tony Hawk is continuing his skateboarding legacy with a new game. Aimed for release on the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii, Tony Hawk: Ride has precious little details as of now. We know that a new peripheral has been developed for the game and that the game is supposed to ‘reinvent’ the series. In my mind, all you need to do is remake Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 and you’ve got the best skating game ever made. Check out the trailer below for a shot of the new peripheral.

3D Realms Sued By Take-Two

duke

As we all know by now, Duke Nukem developer 3D Realms closed their doors recently. Well, it seems that they are now being sued by Take-Two for not delivering Duke Nukem Forever, as was previously agreed upon in a contract.

Apogee (3D Realms) continually delayed the completion date for the Duke Nukem Forever… Apogee repeatedly assured Take-Two and the video-gaming community that it was diligently working toward competing development of the PC Version of the Duke Nukem Forever. — Taken from the complaint filed by Take-Two

I find it a bit strange that Take-Two is just now taking action when the game has been in development for over 12 years! You’d think they would have lit a fire under 3D Realms many years ago.

Round Five of PC Laptop Bargain Hunters

windows

The guys over at Redmond released another infamous laptop bargain hunters ad. This time, we follow a girl named Lauren (not the original Lauren) and her mom searching for a laptop with “speed, portability and battery life” for under 17 benjamins.

This one wasn’t too exciting. They made their usual remark about Apple, but it was quite a justifiable claim, seeing that the cheapest MacBook they looked at was a dollar shy of two grand. Lauren and the mother ended up with a Dell XPS 13a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD, and a $899 price tag.
