The Pirate Bay Has Been Sold

Not too long after the much-publicized trial against TPB’s owners, they have now announced that the website and everything attached have been sold to Global Gaming Factory X (a company known for operating gaming and internet cafes in Sweden). Hans Pandeya, the CEO of Global Gaming Factory X commented on the deal.

“The Pirate Bay is a site that is among the top 100 most visited Internet sites in the world. However, in order to live on, The Pirate Bay requires a new business model, which satisfies the requirements and needs of all parties, content providers, broadband operators, end users, and the judiciary. Content creators and providers need to control their content and get paid for it. File sharers need faster downloads and better quality. “

So it’s hard to tell for sure, but does this mean TPB is going legit? Will one of, if not the, most well known and largest torrent sites be bought out for $8 million dollars (the price of the deal)? I think it’s safe to say that TPB will soon fall off the face of the earth internet. The original boys at  TPB had this to say on their blog.

If the new owners will screw around with the site, nobody will keep using it. That’s the biggest insurance one can have that the site will be run in the way that we all want to. And – you can now not only share files, but share with people. Everybody can indeed be the owner of The Pirate Bay now. That’s awesome and will take the heat of us.The old crew is still around in different ways. We will also not stop being active in the politics of the internets – quite the opposite. Now we’re fueling up for going into the next gear. TPB will have economical muscles to let people evolve it. It will team up with great technicians to evolve the protocols. And we, the people interested in more than just technology, will have the time to focus on that. It’s win-win-win.

EU Standardizes Cell Phone Chargers

microusb

Today, the European Union announced an agreement between numerous mobile phone industry leaders to adapt the Micro-USB connector as the standard for charging data-enabled mobile phones. Signatories include Apple, LG, Motorola, NEC, Nokia, Qualcomm, RIM, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, and Texas Instruments.

However, consumers shouldn’t necessarily expect to see a change in the charging port on the phones they buy. Compliance with this agreement only requires that manufacturers provide an adapter that will work with the Micro-USB standard.

EU stated that this agreement came out of a desire to simplify life for consumers and reduce waste generated by superfluous chargers. The first phones adhering to this compact should hit the market in 2010.

windows-7

According to a report at CNet.com, Microsoft is looking at alternative means of distribution for their newest operating system.

Microsoft has been billing Windows 7 as netbook-friendly from day one, but they now face the challenge of how to get the operating system onto these devices, most of which lack a CD/DVD drive. At 2.3GB, downloading doesn’t seem to be the most convenient option, and Microsoft is now considering offering the software on a bootable USB flash drive. Also reportedly in the works is a partnership between Best Buy and Microsoft to provide a service in which you would drop off your netbook and they would install it for you.

While I cringe at the thought of paying anyone to install an OS for me, especially those con-artists at Best Buy, it seems as though that might be the best route for the technologically inept consumer. I do, however, very much like the idea of a Microsoft-supported means to install your OS via flash drive.

Next Hitman Game Details Released

hitman

When I first heard this news, I thought it was stating that the upcoming Hitman game would be based on the sequel to the Hitman movie, thus giving us a ruined game, but it turns out that the movie sequel is to be based on the new Hitman game. Now, I thought the Hitman movie was alright as a movie, but when looked at as if it where a true Hitman movie, it fell on its face. Hopefully this move will make the sequel a much better film.
