Left 4 Dead 2 Being Killed by Gamers

It seems that many gamers feel betrayed by Valve after the announcement of Left 4 Dead 2. Since the original Left 4 Dead never got much support, despite it being promised, thousands of gamers think that this is a bad move and they have bended together to boycott L4D2. There’s even a Steam group, with over 2,300 members opting to never let L4D2 see the light of day. Read more after the break.

A list of reasons for the boycott was posted on Valve’s forum by SFtheWolf, below is a part of his post.

  • Significant content for L4D1 was promised, and never delivered
  • Valve put little faith in L4D1 since they almost certainly started working on L4D2 right after release
  • The fact that L4D2 is nearly identical to L4D1 will decimate the community for both games
  • The announced date is not nearly enough time to polish content or make significant gameplay changes
  • The new character designs seem bland and unappealing so far
  • L4D2 is too colourful to fit in with L4D1‘s visual aesthetic
  • The fiddle-based horde music is extremely disliked, though the differently orchestrated music is otherwise welcome
  • L4D2‘s release will result in a drop in quality and frequency for L4D1 content, even compared to before
  • The community has lost faith in Valve’s former reputation for commitment to their games post-release

Here at the Olive, we’ve always supported Valve. They make fantastic games and support them amazingly, most of the time. This time around I think they just got ahead of themselves and they are paying the price. Personally, I’m joining the Steam group. Anyone joining me?

serusly i never thought this would happen and also i’m kind of mad and happy because i am a fan of l4d and can’t wait for the new one but also im mad because the people in the game look stupid and no back story is introduced yet and it should be stupid.

Yeah, I agree. I support them wanting to continue the series, but what happened to supporting their games? I look at TF2 and thought it was safe to assume close to or the same level of support and content with L4D1.
