There where lots of rumors flying around about it when first announced, but nothing concrete was ever found. Well, MTV Multiplayer asked Infinity Ward directly: Why the name change? Video shows up fine for us. Could be any of your browser plug-ins causing the problem.

Comes up with a message saying ‘MTV.COM VIDEO CANNOT BE VIEWED OUTSIDE THE US FOR COPYRIGHT REASONS’ :s

Yeah, looks like only people inside the USA can view the video. Sorry for the inconvenience.

They could have just called it “Call of duty 4: Modern Warfare 2″, instead of just dropping the Call of Duty altogether..

@RedRedRed – I don’t agree, I think they saw that the ‘Call of Duty’ series as a name had run it’s course unlike some developers *cough*Final Fantasy*cough*, so taking up the mantle of Modern Warfare 2 is, in my opinion, a great refreshing change to saying ‘cod’.

Well to me, i see it more like a way for IW to cash in on how popular Cod4 was..nothing to do with a refreshing change to say “cod”
