GPL and Microsoft?

microsoft2

Most recently Microsoft has made the move to release LinuxIC under the GPLv2.

LinuxIC are drivers that allow Linux kernels to utilize Microsoft’s Hyper-V, that is, allowing Linux to use a virtualized computing environment running several operating systems at the same time, but completely isolated from one another. Not a new concept, as Windows Server 2008 has been doing this for quite some time, but it’s the fact that Microsoft is releasing it for free and the user is welcome to modify and redistribute it. Could this mean a more open software network where large corporations release full operating systems for free one day?

Let’s here your opinions!
