On July 16, Nikon released a Service Advisory effecting their new D5000 series cameras. The D5000 cameras that have been on the market for a couple months are now apparently experiencing problems related to the On switch. According the the Nikon Service Advisory:
- The camera cannot be operated when the power switch is on, even with a fully-charged battery.
- The camera cannot be operated with the EH-5a AC Adapter connected through the EP-5 Power Connector and the power switch on.
This could be a massive pain for any Nikon D5000 users. A camera that won’t power on isn’t much of a camera at all, but if you are a Nikon D5000 user, don’t be too worried, you can find out if your camera is affected by visiting the Nikon Service Advisory page after July 23. The report stated that they will have a serial number look up tool posted on or after that date.
