Tech Olive is Recruiting Writers!

IMG_0089

So, to gear up for Q4 2009 and years to follow, we’ve decided to get more volunteer contributing writers on board. What we mean by “volunteer” is that you won’t be guaranteed any kind of pay, benefits or a staff position, but it’s a great way to gain writing experience and get your name out there, while having fun doing it! Chances are, if we like you, we’ll keep you on board and pay you.

Anyway, we currently have three positions that are currently open. Check out what they are and the requirements after the break.

PCI-Express 3.0 Delayed

pciex4

Looks like you guys will have to deal with PCI-E 2.0 for another couple of years. Al Yanes, president of the Social Interest Group for the PCI buses, said the new 3.0 spec won’t be released until Q2 of next year and products that meet the spec probably won’t be out until 2011. The delay is due to the need to keep backwards capability with current 2.0 and even 1.0 products. BC for PCI-E 2.0 will be nice, but BC for 1.0 will totally be way cooler.

ps3-slim-chance

Sony Entertainment’s newest creation has come as no surprise to most Sony gaming console “fanboys,” as the PlayStation 2 received a newer, slimmer face lift a couple of years after its initial release. It’s now the PlayStation 3′s turn on the surgery bed, but don’t get your hopes up when the September 1st release date rolls around (or late August, according to Amazon). Just like the PS2 Slim, the new PS3 Slim has its major flaws. Yeah sure, this newer revision is – according to Sony – 32 percent smaller, 36 percent lighter and consumes 34 percent less power, but it’s really not all roses.

Mini Review: Osmos (PC)

os0

Normally, I try to keep “in the know” when it comes to indie games. I just love the amount of enthusiasm and imagination that can be found in them. When I was told about Osmos by the Olive’s biggest fan (you know who you are!), I had never heard of it, but I was willing to give it a try. Boy was I in for a surprise!

Review: Wolfenstein (PC)

wolf0

When your first FPS that was ever played is Wolfenstein 3D, the release of this new Wolfenstein game is quite a monumental occasion. This isn’t to say I was eagerly awaiting the release with white knuckles, but it is a bit of a nice rematch with the game that started it all for me.

Look out, PS3 Slim! According to a leaked Walmart advertisement, the Xbox 360 Elite is going to match the PS3 Slim’s price of $299. Although no official announcement from Microsoft has been made yet, this comes as no surprise and we should look forward to hearing from them about this very soon.
