Battlefield 1943 PC release delayed again

battlefield

In a recent developer review, G4TV asked Gordon Van Dyke about the future of Battlefield 1943‘s PC release. The reply is less than favorable. When asked directly why the PC version was delayed (now with a set release date of Q1 2010), Dyke had this to say:

We haven’t released a Frostbite [1943's game engine] built game on PC, so going into this project we lacked a starting foundation we had on Console.  There are also many different and unique only challenges to the PC that has lead to us pushing the release even further to Q1 CY 2010 [early next year].  This was a hard pill to swallow, but it was absolutely needed to ensure the features and functionality that PC Players have come to expect from Battlefield on PC are not missing.  Things like support for DirectX 9 and 10, higher player count (up to 32-player matches), wide peripheral support i.e. Joysticks for flying, VoIP, and ranked server provider hosting.  So it was and still is the absolutely right decision, for quality sake, to not release until it is ready.

Their source says next Friday is “extremely likely” to be the release date so keep your eyes peeled for the newest installment of OS X.

Crytek teases us with Crysis 2

Crysis

Crytek has decided to torture gamers with a teaser site for their upcoming sequel to Crysis. The site gives us a little bit more of what to expect of the game, which is basically the same thing we’ve seen in Crysis 1. To be perfectly honest, I’m not very excited about Crysis 2 itself, but rather the technical advancements that such games bring to the gaming world. At any rate, if you’re looking forward to the release of Crysis 2, then this site will hopefully keep you busy until the game’s release.

Alan Wake development finally finished

alan-wake

According to Matias Myllyrinne, Remedy’s Managing Director, Alan Wake is actually finished and the development team is just doing clean up and polishing work to make it look and run as best as it can. With the game’s newest release date slated for “Spring 2010″, Remedy should have more than enough time to make Alan Wake the best game it can be. After 4 years of development, will this game finally see the light?

It seems that the boys at EA have forgotten their plans for Battlefield 1943 PC release because they seem to be shifting the hype to their upcoming sequel, Bad Company 2. BC2 is set to release March 2, 2010 in North America and the 5th for Europe. Although there are no details on it yet, we can only assume that this non-specific release date covers the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

The Apple keynote rumor that has been floating around the web has the suspected date of September 9th. New iPods are almost guaranteed to make an appearance, as this has typically been the event for that each year, but sources are now claiming there will be no tablet announced at the event. While no one knows for sure what will go down, we will just have to wait and find out the truth for ourselves on that Wednesday afternoon. Stay tuned.
