Starcraft 2 Still Not Getting LAN
By Tim Hage on Aug 17th, 2009 at 3:15PM

After Blizzard announced that their upcoming title, Starcraft 2, would not include a LAN play option, there was rage in the gaming community. Taking action into their own hands, gamers started an online petition for the inclusion of LAN. Now at 106,762 signatures, Blizzard are still unmoved in their decision. Follow the break for a quote from Blizzard on the matter.
It’s not like we’re surprised that there’s a petition about LAN in Starcraft 2. It was a very, very tough decision. We’ve been talking about it back and forth for well over a year before we finally decided that this is more of the direction of the future for us and actually for the industry. I think LAN will always be a footnote in our history, just like DOS was. – Rob Pardo
When asked how this would affect tournament play and participation, Blizzard responded:
We’re going to do everything we can to support real, legitimate LAN users like eSports and the tournament community. We’re going to try really hard to look into ways to have Battle.net work really well that previously really needed LAN play. – Dustin Browder
