Google Chrome OS Unveiled!
By Craig Lloyd on Nov 19th, 2009 at 3:33PM
Google held a low-key, special event today to unveil their new and anticipated Chrome OS, which was announced back in July. It’s based off of Linux and the Chrome internet browser. Details are still pretty scarce and the OS itself is still in its alpha stages. The final release won’t be available until late next year.
Something note-worthy is the fact that Chrome OS shouldn’t be used as a primary OS. It won’t have a lot of support for drivers. For example, the OS won’t work with standard hard drives, only SSDs, but both x86 and ARM CPUs will be supported. Also, you won’t be able to just download Chrome OS and have at it, you’ll have to buy a Chrome OS device approved by Google. The OS is completely open source so expect some serious hacking to ensue.
Catch us after the break for a video about the new Chrome OS.
