Verizon Goes After Sprint’s Ad Claim

verizon

You probably know about Sprint’s “most dependable 3G network” ad claim. Verizon is now taking aim at the bright yellow after winning the battle against AT&T. Verizon says that Sprint’s ads are false according to a recent Nielsen survey showing its network drops fewer calls than Sprint’s. The National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus agree and have asked Sprint to take down the ads. Obviously Sprint is appealing this and will keep the ads rolling until a winner arises.

Warcraft IV Not Coming Anytime Soon

In an interview with Ausgamers, J Allen Brack from Blizzard was quoted to confirm that even thought it is discussed, Warcraft IV is not in the works.

“Warcraft 4 is certainly something that gets talked about on a pretty regular basis. While I think we’re all excited about a Warcraft 4, in concept, they’re going to finish up StarCraft 2, and then they’re going to work on the two StarCraft expansions that we’ve announced, so they’re booked for the next few years.” — J Allen Brack, Blizzard

From this quote we derive that due to all the games they are working on at the moment there isn’t a team available for Warcraft IV at the moment, but once some of their other titles have been finished and pushed out then they will discuss the possibilities.

It’s not surprising in the technology world that one things comes out right after another. This is exactly the case with Intel’s upcoming Core i9 “Gulftown” processor, where early benchmarks said that Core i9 is 50% faster than the fastest Core i7. The Core i9 sports six cores at 2.8GHz and while six cores might not seem logical now, newer software development is taking on the task of multiple core support, which means six cores could very well be useful in the recent future. The Core i9 will come with a price though, and a hefty one at that. It will also consume 130W of power, compared to the 95W of the Core i7. It’s said that we’ll start seeing the new i9 as early as January 2010.

Razer Announces Imperator Gaming Mouse

'Imperator' actually comes from Latin species 'Pandinus Imperator', more commonly known as the Emperor Scorpion. I own one :3

Razer seems to be on a hot-streak when it comes to new designs and products. Just today, Razer announced the newest addition to their gaming mouse lineup. The Razer Imperator is a wired, 5600DPI, ergonomic desktop gaming mouse. It also sports the 3.5G laser sensor seen in most of today’s Razer mice, but one interesting thing about the Imperator is the adjustable side buttons, which can slide and lock into place wherever you feel comfortable. You can order the Imperator now for $80.

Modern Warfare 2 Getting New “Playlists”

I'm at a loss here. Just laugh amongst yourselves.

As we all know by now, Modern Warfare 2 does not have dedicated servers, so you can’t just browse for a nice TDM or S&D server with the settings you prefer. Instead, you have to pick from a pre-made gametype from the “playlists” that Infinity Ward added to the game. Hopefully Infinity Ward will be able to keep these fresh and not boring because Robert Bowling has just announced that they will be adding more options before the holiday weekend.

“We’re planning to add a new hardcore playlist to #MW2 just in time for the holiday break. Look for Hardcore Ricochet: HQ Pro on Wednesday!”

asus-eee-1005hr

Asus’ first 10-inch Eee PC with a 1366×768 has appeared and was unboxed by the guys over at Netbooked. The higher res is good enough for 720p HD video, but sadly the 1005HR still mostly has the same specs as the 1005HA; a 1.6GHz Atom N280 and integrated graphics, and that alone isn’t enough to cleanly play HD video. Nonetheless, you’ll have more vertical pixels, which is never a bad thing. So far it’s been available in Japan for a couple months, but no word about availability (or pricing) anywhere else. See the unboxing video after the break.

EA Closes Pandemic Studios

Killin' gnatsies

Due to recent budget cuts, EA Games was forced to downsize their development studios. Unfortunately, Pandemic Studios was one of the developers to feel the sting of the budget shrink. After cutting 200 jobs, Pandemic Studios is no longer a separate studio. Instead, a small “core team” from Pandemic have been moved to EA Los Angeles where they will continue working on Pandemic’s projects. Most notable of which is the upcoming WWII game The Saboteur, which is still planned for release on December 4th in Europe and the 8th in the US.

EA Games’ Label Senior Vice President Nick Earl stated, “I want to make it clear that the Pandemic brand and franchises will live on,” and “in the months ahead, we will announce plans for new games based on Pandemic franchises.”
