The Weekly Olive: 10/26/09 – 11/1/09

The Weekly Olive is a new feature published every Sunday night that recaps the weeks important news and reviews.

It wasn’t a crazy week by any means, but there were a few things going on that were worth mentioning. We had Tim’s Bday, a new OliveCast, the L4D2 demo, and a couple of big reviews. Join us after the break for this past week’s breakdown.

Happy Birthday Tim!
- Nope, I didn’t forget “something important,” unlike Tim himself did a couple months ago.  We at the Olive wish Tim a Merry Birthday and may his dreams fly as high as Raoul Duke and Dr. Gonzo.

OliveCast #4.5 – The Craig Boycott
- For our (less than) regularly scheduled podcast, we all piled onto Skype and awaited Craig to begin the conference call. A few minutes later, I get word from Craig notifying me that he could not record that night and the the OliveCast would need to be rescheduled. Andrew decided that the OliveCast waits for no man and because Craig is always laying down the “lol,” we recorded without him. Welcome to the OliveCast #4.5.

Left 4 Dead 2 Demo Released, We Go Hands On
- After a 2+ hour delay and decrypting of files, the demo of this zombie infested game has finally arrived for anyone who pre-ordered it. Needless to say we did and it was everything that was expected and more.

Review: Borderlands (PC)
- With all the pre-release hype, everyone was comparing this game to Fallout 3 and at the time, it seemed like a fair comparison, but after playing Borderlands, it was clear that these two games just don’t compare. At a glance they have a lot of similarities, but they are still so different from each other that a comparison would not be fair to either game, but at the same time it’s not asking too much that some of the features be of the same quality.

Retro Review: Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater
- With the release of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater in 1999, the gaming world was introduced to a franchise that would explode in popularity and pave the way for future extreme sports titles. Although Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater wasn’t the first skating game to be released, it is without a doubt one of the best. In light of the game recently celebrating its 10th anniversary of release, I found it to be the perfect subject for this month’s retro review.
