Elementum Demo Impressions

A pack of developers have sought our “expert” journalism skills for their newest game, Elementum. It’s very much in the vein of Peggle and other such casual, brightly-colored 2D combination-based Tetris-born games. As such, the game is equally as entertaining as it is confusing and unique.

Elementum works by launching colored balls at other colored balls that are already set in the playing field. Once you get a combo of three or more of one color touching, they disappear and you get points. The goal is to clear the playing field. The game has an underlying storyline that deals with such things as Alchemy and the balance of the universe, but it doesn’t need one. In all reality, it would be better off with the following story line: “There are some colored balls and some obstacles that you have to get around. Make a combination of these colored balls and they go away. THAT’S IT!”

While it’s not a game that will captivate you for hours or take you away from games like Modern Warfare 2, it certainly is a great game for anyone seeking a nice time-waster to play on their netbook while they pretend to write a school paper. And let’s face it, who isn’t looking for a game like that?

Now assuming you’re sober, you’ve read this article, looked at the pictures and you’re still thinking “WTF? I don’t get it?”. If you’re not sober, then you’ve probably looked at a few of the pictures and then promptly navigated your internet browser over to your porn site of choice and moved on. No matter the case, you should go download the demo and try the game for yourself. Oh, and I do suggest you mute the game’s high-pitched, one-step-above-elevator-music soundtrack and play your favorite Britney Spears album instead.
