The Weekly Olive: 1/25/10 – 1/31/10

This past week was Winter-Een-Mas, the holiday that celebrates gamers and where gamers celebrate the holiday. On top of that, we had month #2 of The Mamba Files and our end-of-the-month Retro Review. Not a bad week we’d have to say. Join us after the break for the full breakdown.

Happy Winter-Een-Mas 2010!
- Today is the first day of Winter-Een-Mas, the little-known gamer’s holiday week. Today, I will be busy gaming through the night/morning in an attempt to beat the number of hours I set last year on Winter-Een-Mas day one. Will I break my previous record of just over 11 hours? Stay tuned, I’ll update you later with the details. In the mean time, play like you’ve never played before and be thankful for Winter-Een-Mas!

Seagate BlackArmor PS 110 USB 3.0 Unboxing
- We can’t believe it either. It only seems like yesterday when USB 3.0 was only a concept. We knew it was coming sooner or later, but it was just a matter of when it would come. That time is now, folks. We at the Olive are now in possession of USB 3.0, thanks to Seagate who sent us their BlackArmor PS 110 portable hard drive equipped with the new USB platform.

The Mamba Files: Month 2: Winter-Een-Mas Special
- For this month’s Mamba Files, I decided to combine my Winter-Een-Mas gaming marathon with a Mamba battery life test. It was a tall order considering the fact that Razer claims the Mamba will last up to 14 hours of heated gaming, but I was up for the task.

Retro Review: Nerf Arena Blast
- Back in the early days of first-person shooters, it took a lot to peel me away from games like Goldeneye, Perfect Dark 64 and Wolfenstein 3D, but Nerf Arena Blast (NAB) was one of the few games that managed to do it. I decided it was time to install the 328MB, hard drive-eating, Unreal engine-based monstrosity.
