Reader Billy writes,

“If you were to buy a new PC on a $1,000 budget, what would you get? I was thinking like an i3, 8GB of RAM, a 5850, and a 120GB HDD with a Lian-Li case. I’m not really sure because I don’t know much about computers and I thought it would be nice if you would help me out. I just moved here a few weeks ago and I’m still not familiar with the shops in the area, so I’ll probably be ordering from overclockers.co.uk. Oh, and my penis is stuck in glue, do you know of any anti-glue?”

Sid Meier’s Civilization V Announced

After dabbling in Facebook gaming, Sid Meier has moved back to his audience of real gamers by announcing the 5th installment of Civilization. Civilization V has been built on an all-new engine and will be PC-exclusive (heck yeah). The new engine brings some changes that are promised to bring deeper, greater strategy and realism. The game is currently scheduled to release this coming Fall.

Sid Meier’s Civilization franchise has been recognized as one of the greatest PC game franchises of all time with millions of units sold worldwide. Civilization V takes the franchise further by offering players a more immersive experience with deeper strategies; heightened tactical combat; vast, realistic landscapes to explore, battle over and claim as their own; and an in-game community hub where Civ fans can share content and compete against each other without leaving the game.” — Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K.

Since its announcement in December, very little has been told about the upcoming Medal of Honor game, but today EA has released a handful of screenshots to please us gamers. I find their lack of anti-aliasing disturbing, and also I believe that dust is a main character in the game because there’s certainly enough of it. Click the images below to view them full size.

By pre-ordering the upcoming Dawn of War 2 expansion, Chaos Rising ($30), you’ll receive a free copy of Saints Row 2. Let’s hope this kind of behavior becomes a trend. I certainly don’t mind being given the opportunity to play a free, older game whenever I pre-order something new. Steam is known for great package deals, but it seems THQ has been jumping on the bandwagon quite often lately.

Okay, so Kingston’s 256GB DataTraveler 300 has been available for a while now, but this is the first time that the U.S. is seeing such a flash drive. Dubbed the DataTraveler 310, this 256GB hunk of matter will work on Windows, Mac, and Linux. It’s also been said that it can reach read speeds of 25MB/s and 12MB/s write speeds, but good luck getting your grubby hands on this baby, as it’ll cost you $1,108. Follow the break for the full press release.

I’ll just warn you, there are some spoilers in the following post. They are regarding the game’s main characters and the game’s rough storyline basis. Consider yourself warned.

It seems that the rumors just might ring true. The boys over at VG247 have found a video game casting call for an upcoming Activision game. The actor is to voice the character by the name of Frank Barnes, an elite Vietnam soldier that is part of the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam – Studies and Observations Group. A few other main storyline characters were detailed in the casting call as well.

Activision is looking to cast the following characters:

  • Frank Barnes, “a fiercely patriotic veteran of WW2… A solid leader, possessed with an excellent ability to assess and respond to any situation quickly and decisively”
  • Joseph Lewis, a “very physically fit” black man in his 20s
  • Jason Hudson, a white man in his 30s with “over 15 years of military experience, making him an excellent tactician and mission co-coordinator”
  • Kristina Ivanova. a Russian-born martial arts expert and CIA operative who’s “calm to the point of being cold and detached”

World of Warcraft Plushies Announced

For those gamers that always buy in-game WoW pets wishing they could have a physical version of it, your wishes have come true. Blizzard has announced plans of a plush line of WoW pets. For $24.99 you will get a plush doll and a code that will allow you to download the pet in-game. The first two pets offered are a Gryphon Hatchling and a Wind Rider Cub, but Blizzard plans to offer more in the future. The pet will don either an Alliance or Horde shield on their bib. The shield, of course, depends on your personal faction. There are no details yet on when the pets will become available.
