The Weekly Olive: 2/22/10 – 2/28/10

The past week’s best news…

How To: Play HD Video on Your Netbook
- It’s very apparent that netbooks are known for not being all that powerful. They’re great for portability, checking your email and surfing the web, but when it comes to heavy information processing like playing HD video, you’ll have to look elsewhere, or do you?

BioShock 2 DLC Confirmed and Detailed
- Bioshock 2’s first planned DLC, ‘Sinclair Solutions Test Pack,’ will come in the form of multiplayer content that will raise the max rank to 50, complete with new Rank Rewards. The DLC will also bring three new characters (with five new masks to dress them in), 20 new trials and one added weapon upgrade for each weapon. The DLC is priced at 400MSP or $5 for Xbox Live and PS3. Unfortunately, no details yet on the PC release.

Valve Offers “A Brand New Steam” with Beta Announcement
- As of now, Steam is offering gamers the chance to participate in an awesome beta. They are currently testing a (much needed) whole new user interface for their wildly popular program. Unfortunately, the new changes make the program feel awkward and alien again, so you’d better opt-in for the beta so that you know your way around before the final version goes public. The new UI is packed with changes and new awesome features, so head over to Steam’s information page for a complete breakdown.

Windows 7 Activation Technologies Update Out Now
- Remember a couple weeks ago when we told you about a Windows 7 update that would check to see if your copy of Windows 7 was legit? Well, it’s out now and ready to be executed. If you wish to not install, just click on the list of Important Updates and it should be listed in there.

Retro Review: The CRT Monitor
- Ah yes, the familiarity of CRT monitors astounds me. We’ve all used one at some point because it was the only thing we had. LCD monitors didn’t become extremely mainstream until just a few years ago. Heck, it was only last year that I made the switch from CRT to LCD and some people are still rocking the ancient display technology to this day. For this month’s Retro Review, I’ve decided to dive into the mysterious world of the one technology that changed the planet, but now serves as a stupid inconvenience and a desk space waster.
