Retro Review: Bio Menace

Bio Menace was one of the many games that I played as a youngling. It was one of those games that spawned in the 90s when the entertainment industry was enamored with gritty, bullet-proof hero-with-bad-guy tendencies that have awesome names like Snake, Ace, Maverick, Duke, Bunny and so on.

Asus Officializes Eee Pad and Eee Tablet

During an early press conference at Computex 2010, Asus has finally unveiled the Eee Pad EP101TC and EP121, as well as the Eee Tablet. The EP101TC will be a 10-inch pad that runs Windows Embedded Compact 7 (which offers more cloud integration) and is just 12.2mm thick and weighs 675g. The EP121 will be a 12-incher that will run Windows 7 Home Premium and be powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo CULV processor, as well as offering a webcam and USB from what we hear. Both models are expected to hit the market as early as Q1 2011, with prices said to be between $399 and $499.

The Eee Tablet is quite an interesting device. It’ll have a non-backlit monochrome LCD display (not E-ink) that will have a 2,450 DPI touchscreen input sensitivity. There will also be a 2-megapixel camera, USB, a microSD card slot, and a 10-hour battery life. Asus is targeting this towards students as a digital notebook, if you will. The Eee Tablet is expected to arrive in this September and priced between $199 and $299.

The Mamba Files: Month 6 – Buyer’s Guide

So, after six months with the Razer Mamba, I decided I would write up a bit of a buyer’s guide for anyone pondering the purchase of a Razer Mamba. See, on paper, the mouse seems amazing, but I hope to give some useful first-hand information for potential buyers.

This will seem quite like a review, but I will try to explain things more as if someone was buying it from me and asking details about my experience with it. So, with its gargantuan price tag, is this mouse worth the money?

We all know that there are already USB-powered displays out and about, usually around 6- to 8-inchers, but Samsung has developed one that’s 18.5-inches! It uses just two USB 2.0 ports to supply both power and data to the monitor, which only uses 6.3W of juice, thanks to improvements to “the transmittance of the panel and the luminance efficiency of the backlight.” However, the monitor uses a LED edge-lit backlight, which limits the lifetime to 30,000 hours compared to 50,000 of existing LCD monitors. Look forward to these hitting store shelves sometime in 2011.

When Mad Catz shipped out their Modern Warfare 2 Xbox controller, they were nice enough to include the second piece of the set with their Modern Warfare 2 Throat Communicator. Now, we don’t focus on console gaming here at the Olive, so we’ll be testing this device from the perspective of a PC gamer.

While it could turn out to be a simple mistake, it seems that Nvidia has accidentally leaked the details that the currently PS3-exclusive Heavy Rain will release on PC in the near future. On Nvidia’s page that lists the current and upcoming PhysX-enabled games, there is a line that reads “Heavy Rain – Quantic Dream – PC” as a game title, developer, and platform, respectively.

We contacted Quantic Dream for comment on this. We’ll keep you updated.

The beta for EA’s upcoming MMO racing game Need for Speed World has been running for several weeks and EA has finally announced release plans for the final game. The free-to-play MMO will release to the public on July 20th.

Now, as we said, this game will be completely free to play, but EA is offering some incentives to gamers willing to pay a one-time $20 premium fee. See, if you play the game for free, there’s a level cap that you can’t pass until you pay $20 for full access to the game. If you’re planning to pay this $20 to get the full and unlocked version of the game, then you should consider pre-ordering because you’ll be given early access to pre-tuned vehicles and many other goodies depending on your pre-order location:
