The Bargain Bin: Velvet Assassin

The Bargain Bin is a weekly feature that helps out gamers in the tough economy. How does it help? Once a week, it offers a great and cheap game ($10 or less) to keep you going until your next paycheck.

Go Gamer is having an awesome collection of deals for this round of their “48 Hour Madness” sale. While there are a ton of great and amazingly cheap titles to choose from for this week’s Bargain Bin, we chose Velvet Assassin because it was a more obscure and underrated title in a genre that is almost exclusively dominated on the PC by the Splinter Cell series.

In an interview, Treyarch head Mark Lamia mentioned that they are working hard to include dedicated servers in the PC version of Black Ops for multiplayer.

“Dedicated servers are excellent, I don’t see any reason not to see them unless… well, I just don’t see any reason not to. We do work very hard to reconcile the desire to manipulate and modify those dedicated servers with offering them the persistent experience and benefits that the console system provides… We’re working very hard to marry those two things, so people can run dedicated servers and also participate in the communal experience the console players get to have, given they’re all on first-party servers.”

Nobody would have expected it, but perhaps Treyarch will be the one to save us from the horrible trenches that Infinity Ward dug for us with IWNet’s terrible player-2-player servers in Modern Warfare 2.

On a related note, Activision has assured gamers that a full, proper Black Ops trailer will be premiering on May 18th during the NBA Eastern Conference Finals match on ESPN.

We finally managed to get our hands on a review sample from Mad Catz and here’s what we think…

Fable 3 Accidentally Confirmed for PC?

Microsoft officially released the Fable 3 cover art this morning. Why do we, as PC gamers, care? Well, after Microsoft released the image, they swiftly removed it, but why? Luckily, the boys over at Joystiq saved a copy for themselves. As you can see from the picture above, it’s the Xbox 360 box art, but one can read, “Only on Xbox 360 and Windows.” So, could this be the reason Microsoft pulled the art? One can only speculate, but I think it’s safe to say we should be expecting details of the game’s PC release before too long.

Although there was some concern that the second installment of Dead Space would make it to PC gamers, light has been shed on the situation with EA’s fourth-quarter financial results that listed Dead Space 2 under the PC category. It’s far from an official announcement, but safe to assume that it’s coming. There are no details on when it will hit PC, but the console version is currently set for an early 2011 launch.
