The Bargain Bin: Alpha Prime

The Bargain Bin is a weekly feature that helps out gamers in the tough economy. How does it help? Once a week, it offers a great and cheap game ($10 or less) to keep you going until your next paycheck.

On the asteroid “Alpha Prime” is a seemingly abandoned deep space mining facility. Hubbardium, the material that was being mined, was not only incredibly valuable, but also fatally unstable. The hubbardium seems to have turned the miners into something much worse, and who’s just crash-landed right in the middle of it all? That’s right, our protagonist.

With the recent announcement from Sony that they would be ending their floppy disk manufacturing next year, officially killing the thirty-year-old storage format, it’s really hard to think that CDs and DVDs will last much longer. Much like what people are doing with floppy disks now, there are some that are starting to create different objects out of discs and not use them for their intended use. Just myself alone I’ve seen peers decorate their room with discs and even make boxes out of old jewel cases super-glued together. Heck, I’ve even started using a DVD as a drink coaster not too long ago. With digital content services being used more and more every day, it’s hard to believe that discs will be surviving for much longer.

The Mamba Files: Month 5 – Hindsight

In my gaming days before the Razer Mamba, I was using my 800 DPI Logitech MX Revolution. Since I’ve begun the Mamba testing, I have only used the MX Revolution a few times over the past five months. Now that I’m firmly acquainted with the Mamba, I returned to my MX Revolution for a few days and to see how it compared with the Mamba. So, in hindsight, how do I feel about the differences?

Of course, these two devices are hardly comparable except that they’re both wireless, but during my past time with the MX Revolution, I felt it was the best mouse I had ever used. So, after a long time away from the MX and all this time being spent with the Mamba so far, do I still have the same passion for the MX? Or will I just struggle through the dying relationship so that I can return quickly to the Mamba?

The awesome developers behind the creepy and atmospheric Penumbra horror games have announced that their upcoming game, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, will be offered at a 50% discount to everyone that pre-orders the game before May 11th. If that’s not enough, they also said that if they hit 2,000 pre-orders before May 31st, the game will launch with some extra content when it releases this summer.

At 2000 pre-orders, placed before the 31st of May, the game will get extra content in the form of a commentary track. By enabling commentaries, members from Frictional Games will talk about the creation of Amnesia: The Dark Descent during your playtrough.

If you’re unfamiliar with the Penumbra series, or The Dark Descent, then I highly suggest you head over to the game’s homepage and checkout the amazingly tense and creepy trailer.

It seems like Ubisoft’s one and only flight combat simulator is making a comeback with a sequel. Tom Clancy’s HAWX 2 is planned for release this coming Fall for the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, and the PC. All we have is this lousy website to go off of, but other than that, no other details were mentioned, which makes us believe we might see more come E3 2010 in June.
