To close out the beta’s final weekend, EA has released the Medal of Honor multiplayer beta to all Steam users that own Battlefield: Bad Company 2. The beta ends this Sunday (July 18th), so you’d better clear your schedule!

Capcom confirmed today that the PC release of their upcoming zombie-killing sequel, Dead Rising 2, will make use of Microsoft’s Games for Windows Live for its achievements, profiles, multiplayer and more.

This is always a point of concern due to GFW Live’s unreliable past of gaming stability and functionality. However, with Microsoft’s promise to focus more on the PC gaming-side of things, perhaps this will be their first chance to redeem themselves in the eyes of the gaming public. That, or we’ll end up with another Fallout 3 — great game, but almost unplayable thanks to GFW Live.

Shockingly, the development of Kane and Lynch 2 has finished ahead of schedule and IO Interactive wants to share that good fortune with their fans by releasing the game a week early. The game is now arriving August 17th in the U.S. and August 20th for European gamers. Hopefully this second installment won’t be as buggy as many found the original game to be.

“The team has worked hard to deliver a game that’s different from the current trend of third-person shooters and we’re so pleased to be able to share it with the world ahead of schedule.” – IO Interactive’s General Manager Niels Jørgensen

Review: Gamer Grub

Upon first learning of Gamer Grub, we felt compelled to get our hands on some and report back to our dedicated readers. So, with that, we contacted the boys and girls at Gamer Grub and begged for some free food asked them kindly if we could be given a few samples on which to conduct a series of scientific tests. Also, we promised to eat the Grub.

We’ve all heard the saying that all things must come to an end eventually. Well, Microsoft is pulling the plug on Windows XP SP2 and will no longer support it, which means users will no longer receive updates and important security fixes for the OS itself, as well as programs like Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, and Outlook Express. There is an easy fix for this, though. Simply upgrade to SP3 and you’ll be in the clear.

We’re Changing Things Up Temporarily!

Hello, minions of Earth. We’re going to be throwing a curve ball your way and switch things up temporarily. It’s kind of a good news/bad news type of situation. The bad news is that our monthly OliveCast will be suspended until next month so that we can have more time to work on the good news. So, what is the good news? The good news is that we’ll be bringing you loyal readers of the Olive an awesome, in-depth look inside Hulu Plus! Many of you might be hesitant on spending that $10 you made from betting your friend that you could drink his vomit that he upchucked a week ago on a monthly paid subscription of Hulu. That’s where we come in and let you know what you should or shouldn’t spend that $10 on.

Driver: San Francisco Delayed Into 2011

In a move by Ubisoft to avoid “the competitive market at Christmas,” the publisher will be delaying Driver: San Francisco for a Q1 2011 release, instead of the original Fall release period that they announced back at E3 2010. The game will now release at approximately the same time as Ubisoft’s other big title Ghost Recon: Future Soldier.

The Bargan Bin: Nelson Tethers Puzzle Agent

The Bargain Bin is a weekly feature that helps out gamers in the tough economy. How does it help? Once a week, it offers a great and cheap game ($10 or less) to keep you going until your next paycheck.

Rather than a racing, shooting, horror, or action game, we offer you a much more casual and laid-back game for you budget approval. Made by the hilarious team at Telltale Games, Nelson Tethers Puzzle Agent is part of their new “Pilot Program” where they make a single “episode” of a new series and, like a TV show, will continue to make it if the sales are good enough.

The Weekly Olive: 7/5/10 – 7/11/10

The past week’s best news and featured content…

What’s Wrong With No Hassle, Free WiFi?
- With the recent announcement that Starbucks would be bringing free WiFi to all of their U.S. stores, only one thing was on my mind: “it’s about freaking time.” If a $4 latte wasn’t enough to make you think of highway robbery, maybe spending $4 more for a measly two hours of web time hit the spot. Thank goodness that won’t be the case anymore starting July 1st.
