The Weekly Olive: 10/25/10 – 10/31/10

The past week’s best news and featured content you might have missed, as well as a preview of the week ahead…
Review: Fallout: New Vegas
- Throwing you straight into the action, Fallout: New Vegas starts with you (a courier) being held up, shot in the head, and buried alive. After getting exhumed by a robot companion and revived by the town doctor, you begin the character creation process. The remainder of the core story is driven by your need to retrieve your stolen package and exact revenge; a journey that sees you traveling across the Nevada wastes, growing closer to New Vegas’ light pollution on the horizon.
Happy Birthday, Tim!
- It feels like yesterday when Tim and I were both at his house with the huge tub of Legos all dumped out on the floor, attempting to build some type of nifty contraption to impress the other. Wait…that was yesterday. Anyway, Tim is now officially in his twenties (h4x!). Out of all things, I ended up getting him more video games for his birthday present (Nimbus and The Polynomial, to be specific. Two fun-looking indie titles).
The Mamba Files: Month 11 – Second Battery Test
- Back in January we tested the Mamba’s battery to see how well it compared to Razer’s claim of lasting 12 solid hours of gaming before requiring life-support in the form of its charging cable. To its credit, the Mamba really lasted 12 hours of hard gaming before begging for mercy, so lets see if it can perform just as well after these past 9 months of wear and tear.
Review: Seagate GoFlex Ultra-Portable Drive 1TB “Slim” Edition
- Here we are, folks. We have here the smallest 1TB hard drive on the planet currently in our hands. I can literally stick this in my back pocket. It’s not really called the Slim Edition, but we’re giving it that name until the excitement wears off and discover that “slim” no longer is “slim,” but rather the standard. For now though, we’ve been studying this thing inside and out.
Mini Review: The Ball
- After Portal invented its own sub-genre of first-person shooters, few other developers have taken the leap to make another first-person puzzler, but indie developer Teotl Studios is stepping up to the plate with The Ball. Can it hold its own in this very exclusive genre?
