The first “trailer” for Batman’s return to gaming, Batman: Arkham City, has just released. It’s hard to really consider it a trailer as it’s only about 30 seconds of pre-rendered footage that leaves us wanting more, but I suppose that’s the whole point. Check it out after the break.

Mini Review: Super Meat Boy

“FFFFFFFffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuu–”

If you share a house or apartment with anyone, they’d better get used to that sound coming from your room. Much like Rock Band with its incessant tapping of colored buttons and digital drum heads, Super Meat Boy spawns a new and unmistakable sound during gameplay. Yes, it’s difficult. No, there is no difficulty slider to lessen the pain.

So the day has finally come for the guys at Google to remove the duct tape from their mouths. They announced a few days ago that they were to unveil more details on Chrome OS and today they did just that.

First, they launched their Chrome Web Store, which has been vastly updated from when it was initially unveiled back in May. This is the place where you can get all of your Chrome extensions and themes, as well as different apps and games such as the NY Times, Sports Illustrated and even Plants vs. Zombies. The apps are compatible for both the Chrome browser and Chrome OS.

Google then moved on to the main event and handed out more details of Chrome OS. Frankly, it’s super fast. The company said that the only bottleneck is how fast you can physically navigate with the mouse/trackpad. That’s quite an impressive claim if we do say so ourselves. Google says that all the user’s data is encrypted by default and the operating system itself is loaded onto read-only memory that can’t be tampered without breaking the machine open and tinkering inside. As far as keeping the OS up to date, Google says they’ll send out automatic updates every few weeks to not only keep it up to date, but to hopefully make it faster and faster. The OS can also run in offline mode and any changes that took place will be automatically synced when it’s reconnected to the internet. As far as printing, you won’t be able to physically connect a printer to a Chrome OS machine. Instead, Google wants you using their new Cloud Print service, where you can wirelessly print to your home printer from any location.

Another big surprise is that Google even teamed up with Verizon on the Chrome OS project to bring 100MB of data per month for two years at no cost to every purchaser of a Chrome OS netbook. After the two years are up, you can vouch for a $9.99 plan that will give you unlimited access for a single day contract-free.

Now the sad part. Chrome OS is no where near completion, but we should expect netbooks to ship out sometime in the middle of next year. Acer and Samsung have said that they’re already on board to produce some Intel-based Chrome OS netbook. However, there’s currently one Chrome OS netbook model floating around that will be given to developers and a select few beta testers. The netbook is known as Cr-48 and the maker of this device is currently unknown. However, we noticed that the Caps Lock key is left out, which could only mean that Google doesn’t want us to yell over the internet.

Tech Olive’s 2010 Dream PC

We have decided to do something that we’ve done a couple of times in the past, but change the format a little bit. At the end of each year, we’re going to come up with the absolute best computer build that money can buy. We’re talking balls to the wall. No mercy. This is a PC that can do anything and everything. Maybe even possibly take over the world. This is a machine that is comprised of the best and most powerful components available to date.

Choosing these components for the 2010 Dream PC wasn’t as difficult as I thought. I figured the motherboard would be the hardest to choose simply because of all the options, but after I narrowed down what I wanted in this machine, only a few motherboards remained. It turned out the hardest decisions were deciding between Intel or AMD on the CPU and Nvidia and AMD on the GPU, but after some further hardcore research, the decisions were final. Find out what who I went with and view the entire build after the break!

Most of those spam emails that you’re getting for Rolex counterfeits and herbal remedies will most likely cease thanks to an arrest made last month. 23-year-old Oleg Nikolaenko was arrested in Las Vegas during a car show. The Russian hacker possessed a network of over 500,000 computers that was able to send out 10 billion spam emails per day, which is possibly the reason why Russia is number one in the world for sending out spam (they’re not known for just their vodka, you know).

Nikolaenko faces up to three years in prison and a $250,000 fine, which for him is probably pocket change, seeing that he spent $2 million on spam advertising alone.

According to Game Informer‘s exclusive January cover story, the most recent game series to jump on the reboot bandwagon is Tomb Raider. After the pace-changing downloadable Lara Croft title from earlier this year, many fans wondered just what would come of the core series. It seems we get our answer today: Complete series reboot. From Game Informer‘s announcement:

“To build an entirely fresh Lara – a culturally relevant hero worth of the attention that once came so effortlessly – they must break her first. In this new adventure – simply titled Tomb Raider – a younger and inexperienced Lara Croft must endure both physical and emotional trauma to survive.”

Judging by the first of the game’s artwork (above), Lara looks much younger. That’s all fine and dandy, but there’s still something we want to know: cup size. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until later this month for more details.
