Review: Battlefield: Bad Company 2

After the first installment and its exclusive debut on the Xbox 360, EA DICE has deemed PC gamers worthy of receiving the second installment of the Bad Company series. It’s still a bit confusing as to why there was never a PC port of Bad Company, but we’ll take what we can get. With its sights firmly set on Modern Warfare 2, let’s see if Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is even worth our time.

Review: Asus Eee PC 1005PE

The netbook market is a very unique one. It’s is still so young that the devices are lacking in speed, but the trade-off is portability and long battery life. So, as it stands, there’s a mad dash for hardware developers to try and find the best balance of performance, portability and most importantly, battery life. All while trying to keep the devices in an affordable and competitive pricing bracket. So, let’s find out how one of Asus’ latest revisions of their wildly popular Eee PC line holds up in the ever-evolving netbook market.

Retro Review: The CRT Monitor

Ah yes, the familiarity of CRT monitors astounds me. We’ve all used one at some point because it was the only thing we had. LCD monitors didn’t become extremely mainstream until just a few years ago. Heck, it was only last year that I made the switch from CRT to LCD and some people are still rocking the ancient display technology to this day. For this month’s Retro Review, I’ve decided to dive into the mysterious world of the one technology that changed the planet, but now serves as a stupid inconvenience and a desk space waster.

Review: BioShock 2

When it was first announced, I was skeptical about the sequel to BioShock. It seemed like it tied up the story so well that it any sequel could only end as a poor attempt at milking another big-name title for all it was worth. It didn’t help that the original BioShock team didn’t have a lot to do with the production of this sequel either. However, despite this, BioShock 2 manages to establish its own characters, dynamics and story quite well.

If you’re new to the whole USB 3.0 deal, don’t worry too much. You have plenty of time to hit the books and learn more about it, but right now we’ll hopefully help you out a little because Seagate sent over their first USB 3.0 device, the BlackArmor PS 110 USB 3.0 Performance Kit. Frankly, we’re really excited to finally have our grubby little hands on USB 3.0 and we were dying to find out just how fast it was in a real-world scenario.

Retro Review: Nerf Arena Blast

Back in the early days of first-person shooters, it took a lot to peel me away from games like Goldeneye, Perfect Dark 64 and Wolfenstein 3D, but Nerf Arena Blast (NAB) was one of the few games that managed to do it. I decided it was time to install the 328MB, hard drive-eating, Unreal engine-based monstrosity.

For this month’s Mamba Files, I decided to combine my Winter-Een-Mas gaming marathon with a Mamba battery life test. It was a tall order considering the fact that Razer claims the Mamba will last up to 14 hours of heated gaming, but I was up for the task.

Mini Review: Zero Gear (PC)

When we first heard of Zero Gear, we were pleasantly surprised. From early previews, it was hard to believe that someone was finally making a Mario Kart-themed racer. It seemed that they captured what made Mario Kart great and managed to bring it to gamers with a fresh look and design. Like Mario Kart, Zero Gear focuses heavily on combat and weapons to win the race. However, it does offer more than just circuit-race gametypes.

Elementum Demo Impressions

ele0

A pack of developers have sought our “expert” journalism skills for their newest game, Elementum. It’s very much in the vein of Peggle and other such casual, brightly-colored 2D combination-based Tetris-born games. As such, the game is equally as entertaining as it is confusing and unique.
