So it seems that those mysterious Google logos from the past couple of days have finally showed their true meaning (and my prediction was wrong). Google has introduced a new way to search by introducing Google Instant. It’s basically a real-time search feature, similar to Spotlight on Macs. Google says that this will save 2-5 seconds per search. It’s a good thing because my time is too precious to be waiting around for a couple seconds.

Last month, a cruise ship known as the Pacific Sun met with a heavy storm 400 miles north of New Zealand. The ship was greeted by 25-foot waves and winds topping out at 60 MPH. The video itself is quite humorous, but I can’t help but think how awful it would be if I were put on a ship that was about capsize. One of the passengers said, “it was like being in a disaster movie. There were screams and people crying as they looked for their lost children.” Out of the 1,732 passengers on board, only 42 were injured.

Today’s mysterious Google logo starts off being a silverish color and then changes to its traditional assorted colors as you type, complete with the blinking cursor. I’m beginning to wonder what’s going on here and I think I know.

I believe this is Google’s way of discretely showing off the abilities of HTML5, but I could be wrong. Let’s hear your thoughts.

I kept wondering why the past couple days my favorite image hoster has been down. I simply just figured they were having server issues and would be back up soon. Several days pass with still no sign of a return. Finally, we remember their Twitter account and this is where we received the bad news. Our favorite image hoster has deceased due to insufficient funds necessary to keep the site up and running.

Portal. It’s no secret that this game holds a special place in the hearts of Tech Olive. So it would come as no surprise that anything even loosely Portal-related would at least gain an audience from the Tech Olive staff. Some of these projects are even worth the time that we spend admiring them. So, not only is this week’s flash game related to Portal, but it’s also worth the few hours that you’ll sink into it. Whether those extra gray hairs are worth it, however, is entirely up to you.

While some may argue that Portal: The Flash Version strips the original game of everything that made it great, it’s more a matter of the game being slimmed down and distilled into its most basic form: frustrating, but endlessly fun puzzle-based platforming. If you’re not a fan of Portal, then go die in a fire you should still give Portal: The Flash Version a try. And, for fans of Portal that also enjoyed this Flash version, go grab Portal: The Flash Version Map Pack for the proper Portal game!

This might come at a surprise to you (or not), but paying $10 a month for Hulu Plus is only getting you 14% more content over the free Hulu, according to research firm One Touch. However, you also get iOS, TV, and console streaming capabilities, but if the selection is the most important factor in your decision, then you might want to ask yourself if only 14% more content is worth the $10/month fee.

There are tons of way to waste time on the internet. It’s no secret. There are even more ways to fill yourself with blinding rage. Combine that and add an amazing soundtrack with brilliant Gameboy-style retro graphics and what do you have? Tower of Heaven.

The game starts with the main character’s soul attempting to scale the tower of heaven. On your way to the top, you’ll face many obstacles and eventually be given rules that you must obey or you will be punished. There is a time limit for each level, but thankfully, you have an unlimited number of lives. Tower of Heaven quickly gets more difficult and never lets up, but with the frustration and rage of the difficult gameplay comes the brilliant feeling of success and accomplishment of completing the level. I won’t deny that this game is almost unrealistically difficult, but that’s what makes it such an appealing game.
