Review: Dead Space 2

After starting a series as well as the original Dead Space did, it’s always a point concern that in an attempt to make the experience feel fresh again, the developer might just change too much. In contrast, there’s also worries that the second game will only succeed in watering down the series and leave it feeling stale and stagnant. This is a balance that Dead Space 2 struggles to keep through its 8-10 hour campaign.

No Dead Space 2 DLC for PC Gamers

Electronic Arts recently announced that Dead Space 2‘s first DLC, a singleplayer add-on titled Dead Space 2 Severed, will not be coming to PC. While future DLC releases remain unknown, this seems to be following a trend by EA, with recent demos of Bulletstorm, Dead Space 2, Crysis 2, and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit also only hitting console gamers’ hard drives.

It seems EA’s recent purchase of the CampaignForPCGaming.com domain name is in no way changing how poorly they support the PC platform when it comes to their games, demos, and DLC. Let’s hope that changes sooner than later.

Unlike other PC games that were left out of getting a Collector’s Edition (we’re looking at you MW2), the PC version of Dead Space 2 will fortunately see a Collector’s Edition. Inside of the $79.99 box will be the game, a full-sized Plasma Gun replica, the game’s soundtrack, a lithograph, and two exclusive in-game items (Unitology Suit and Force Gun).

Dead Space 2 Collector’s Edition will start shipping January 25th.

Dead Space Demo Released

959be365deadspace1

EA announced today the release of a free demo of their space shooter, Dead Space. Now before you get excited, this demo is only for the console players. The free demo is available for download now through Xbox Live Marketplace and Playstation Network. Sorry, no PC demo.

I think EA is doing it wrong though, I thought the whole idea of a demo is to release it before the retail release of the game, to build excitement and sales.
