Crysis 2 Multiplayer Demo Released

Despite Crysis 2‘s unintentional beta release last month, Crytek has powered forward with the release of Crysis 2‘s public multiplayer demo. You can grab the 1.5GB demo for yourself over at Big Download and frag some Nanosuit-wearing noobs.

Dragon Age II’s Demo Arrives

As BioWare foretold earlier this month, Dragon Age II‘s demo released to the masses. For completing the demo and importing your demo save when starting your full retail gaming experience, you will be given Hayder’s Razor, a special dwarven blade to help you jump-start your epic quest. Furthermore, if 1,000,000 fans download the Dragon Age II demo, BioWare will add two new in-game items to the final game: Lothering’s Lament and The Far Cliffs of Kirkwall.

Crysis 2 Internal Beta Build Leaked

More than a month prior to the game’s planned release date, it seems an early, near-complete internal beta build of Crysis 2 has leaked to torrent sites across the Internet. According to reports, the leaked beta features a complete singleplayer experience and a multiplayer element that can be played with a little tweaking. Granted, these experiences are said to be riddled with bugs, performance issues, and missing textures.

EA released the following statement on the matter:

“Crytek has been alerted that an early incomplete, unfinished build of Crysis 2 has appeared on Torrent sites. Crytek and EA are deeply disappointed by the news. We encourage fans to support the game and the development team by waiting and purchasing the final, polished game on March 22. Crysis 2 is still in development and promises to be the ultimate action blockbuster as the series’ signature Nanosuit lets you be the weapon as you defend NYC from an alien invasion. Piracy continues to damage the PC packaged goods market and the PC development community.”

Of course, this raises concerns about how this leak will affect the game’s retail release and also starts a new “piracy is killing gaming” argument with all-new fuel for the flames. While we’re not going to argue for one side or the other, it is worth noting that this still all traces back to a breach in Crytek’s security. So perhaps they should take a look in the mirror before blaming PC gamers for taking advantage of the opportunity.

Huge-name movie composer Clint Mansell has signed on to bring his orchestral brilliance to Mass Effect 3‘s musical score. Though it is a disappointment that the game won’t have music from the two-man team that provided the tracks for both previous games, it’s still very exciting that the job is being given to a man that has proven himself many times over.

If you are unfamiliar with Mansell’s work, he’s probably best known for “Lux Æterna,” a track that has made its way into countless advertisements, montage videos, and just about anything that called for a classical and emotional track.

Review: Dead Space 2

After starting a series as well as the original Dead Space did, it’s always a point concern that in an attempt to make the experience feel fresh again, the developer might just change too much. In contrast, there’s also worries that the second game will only succeed in watering down the series and leave it feeling stale and stagnant. This is a balance that Dead Space 2 struggles to keep through its 8-10 hour campaign.

Though the game’s existence was far from a secret, we’ve finally gotten official word of incoming information regarding the third Battlefield title, thanks to Game Informer. Their March issue will feature a massive and exclusive Battlefield 3 cover story. According to the cover art, “DICE sets its sights on Call of Duty.” Wasn’t that the plan for Bad Company 2 and Medal of Honor, only to be greatly overshadowed by Black Ops?  Perhaps EA DICE can put Call of Duty in its place this time around.
