In a completely unexpected move, gaming legend Sid Meier has released news of his intentions of bringing the Civilization game to Facebook users. While we’re not quite sure what to expect as far as gameplay and requirements of the game, we can direct you to the fangroup dedicated to the game where you might be lucky enough to get into the upcoming closed beta. Follow the break for a quote from Meier on the subject.

To celebrate Talk Like a Pirate Day, we thought you might benefit from this little trick. You can change your Facebook language into pirate talk. The feature has been around for some time now, but it’s very noteworthy on these kinds of days.

To change the language to pirate speak, just scroll down all the way to the bottom of the home page and click on English (US) (or whatever language you currently use) on the left side. Then select English (Pirate). This only works for the English language though. Sorry foreigners.

The newest update for the Facebook iPhone app was released just a couple of days ago and many new features are included, several of which consist of the ever-wanted landscape mode and a new home screen. Other new features include the ability to manage events, pages, photos and notes. iPhone 3GS users have the honor to upload video straight to Facebook.

But one huge feature that any iPhone user worships over is Push Notifications, which strangely isn’t included with the new 3.0 update for Facebook. They said that Push wasn’t ready in time, but we should look for it in the 3.1 update coming later this year it seems.

Microsoft has announced that their Facebook and Twitter integration for Xbox Live will come only for Xbox Live Gold members. If you’re using the free Silver membership, you’ll be offered a free trial to test the services out, but if you want more, then you’ll have to pay for a Gold membership.

Also, just a reminder, you can upgrade your account to Gold for the weekend, for free!

Facebook for iPhone OS 3.0 Coming Soon

Many avid Facebook and iPhone users, such as myself, have been eagerly awaiting the release of the new Facebook for the iPhone/Touch, which is rumored to support features such as Push Notification, as well as (hopefully) landscape mode.

Facebook for iPhone 3.0 has been sent to Apple for review. More details and screen shots are coming this week…

According to the screenshot that the Facebook team recently released, it appears that the Push Notification will be in full force, as well as an overhauled/streamlined system of categorizing everything. Hope it’s as solid as it looks, but only time will tell. Stay tuned.

Facebook to Offer Custom Profile URLs

facebookurls

Facebook’s latest upcoming feature will be custom URLs for your profile. Instead of the string of random numbers and symbols, you’ll be able to have your own username to put in the URL instead, making it easier for you and others to remember what your profile URL is and to share it more easily.

Honestly, it’s about dang time.

Read more about it on Facebook’s Blog.

Facebook Rolls Back Terms of Use

facebook

When Facebook changed their terms of use, they were quickly approached by angry users. What caused all this havoc was the removal of a line which read, “You may remove your User Content from the site at any time. If you choose to remove your user Content, the license granted above will automatically expire.”

What Facebook pretty much did was grant themselves the right to all user-uploaded content forever. It no longer mattered if you removed anything from the site, because it would remain in Facebook’s archives, giving them the right to use the content for as long as they like, whenever they like.

After a bombardment of complaints and negative press coverage, the social networking site rolled back their Terms of Use to the previous version. You can read more about the roll back from Facebook themselves at their blog.
