Retro Review: Grand Theft Auto

Undeniably the first of its kind, the original Grand Theft Auto title ushered in a whole new sub-genre of gaming: open world. Nowadays we take this type of gameplay for granted, even going to extremes by often labeling them as “GTA clones.” Today, we pay respect to the game that started a revolution and a series that continues to blow our minds with each new installment.

When it comes to Machinima, true quality is few and far between. Granted, you’ll find a nice comedy series once in a while, but the amateur in-game filmmakers struggle very hard to manage even a single scrap of Hollywood-worthy content. However, it seems Ezequiel Guerisoli is an exception. His most recent Machinima project is that of Mastermind; a mysterious and fantastic project created using the GTA IV engine. It’s very difficult to describe Mastermind, so you’re best off hitting the break and watching the 14-minute first episode for yourself.

Thanks to an early release of a French PC magazine’s cover, it looks like they know something we don’t. According to them, the issue contains information about GTA: The Lost and the Damned (GTA IV‘s first DLC pack). Could it be that the DLC is really coming to PC? Last month, a little light was shown on the possibility, but this seems like solid proof. This issue of the magazine is scheduled to hit news stands on December 28th, so we should have more news shortly after that.

French people...it's like they have a different word for everything.

Quick, pull my finger!GTA IV has recently been given an update on PC which, at a glance, seems to have changed little. That was the case until gamers took a gander at the achievement list where they will notice a full list of the achievements from The Lost and the Damned, one of the Xbox 360-exclusive DLC packs for GTA IV. This is still very much speculation, but could the DLC finally be breaking exclusivity to release on the PC? We’ll keep you updated. Follow the break for the patch’s official change-log and a screenshot of the achievement list.

Many Theft Auto

Microsoft seems to have a fetish for dressing up their Xbox 360 console’s packaging because they have recently announced their newest bundle for the console. This new bundle is nothing more than a standard Xbox 360 Elite, a copy of GTA IV and a copy of Episodes from Liberty City. News, pricing and availability is still a bit hard to come by currently, but we’ll update you when more information becomes known.

Alright, maybe he recorded a few hours, but after the footage was sped up, the time lapse that followed is actually quite impressive. Head over to EuroGamer to check out the video.

Hot Coffee Suit Settled for $20 Million

GTA

For the gamers that are old enough to remember the release of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, you probably also remember the massive controversy that followed it when a modder found a hidden mini-game that allowed the player to watch and control sexual interactions with your girlfriend in the game. Parents People got mad and filed suit. Five years later, Take-Two has finally settled the suit once and for all for a cool $20 million.
