Another Episode in the Left 4 Dead 2 Saga

After Valve’s response to the gamers, the leaders of the L4D2 boycott (now at over 26,000 members) have issued a response back to Valve. It is as follows:

While we are excited about the idea of new content, we are still in the dark about it. What sort of content is it? For all we know, it could be a new main menu screen. Is it a new map, is it new monsters, is it new weapons, etc…? We’d like to know what is going to be in this new content.

Furthermore, when will this content be released? Is there any sort of timetable within which the content will be made available? These are all questions we would like Valve to elaborate on.

Last, Valve is trying to address the community split from releasing a new game in the series… they did not go into details, and are still working on it

So, it seems that the leaders of the boycott are glad that Valve have issued an official response and are trying to work to keep gamers happy, but they are still skeptical as to what Valve is and will actually be doing for the gamers of L4D1.

More Left 4 Dead 2 Questions Answered

With the ongoing topic of L4D2, we have some more details for you gamers to read and digest. Kotaku sat down with Chet Faliszek and Gabe Newell and discussed the topic.

“Doing a sequel in one year is new for Valve. But providing ongoing support for our titles after the initial launch isn’t – it has been part of our philosophy since Half-Life was released ten and half years ago,” said Newell. “We see no reason to change that and will continue to support the over three million customers in the L4D community.”

That statement seems to be conflicting with what they are actually doing with their games.

“In addition to the recently released Survival Pack, we are releasing authoring tools for Mod makers, community matchmaking, 4×4 matchmaking, and more new content during the coming months for L4D1,”

I will give Valve this, they are trying to please the gamers, but it’s clear at this point that they’ve crossed the point of no return as far as development and this game will be made. Perhaps Valve will make good on all their promises to the gaming community, but I seriously doubt it. I am still unconvinced that L4D2 warrants a new game and not just DLC.

Left 4 Dead 2 Meets More Opposition

l4ds

Remember a few days ago, on June 3rd when we told you about the Steam group that is comprised of members that are opposed to L4D2? Well, when I wrote that article, the group had just over 2,300 members. Well, today (June 7th), at time of writing, the group’s numbers have surged.  Over the course of 4 days, the group gained 10,000 (and some change) members. The Steam group now has 12,819 members. I think Valve is going to have some issues on their hands when they try to release Left 4 Dead 2. (Set for release November 17th)
