The Mamba Files: Month 12 – Disassembly

So, here we are. It’s our final article in our year-long Mamba Files series. What are we doing this month? A complete disassembly. For those wanting to fix, tweak, customize, or maintain their Mamba, look no further. It’s also worth noting that this doesn’t break any warranty seals, so you could actually do this without leaving any evidence of tampering, thus (in theory) keeping your warranty intact. But it’s best to not tinker around if you want to heavily rely on the warranty later.

Without further adieu, let’s dig in!

Back in January we tested the Mamba’s battery to see how well it compared to Razer’s claim of lasting 12 solid hours of gaming before requiring life-support in the form of its charging cable. To its credit, the Mamba really lasted 12 hours of hard gaming before begging for mercy, so lets see if it can perform just as well after these past 9 months of wear and tear.

This month on The Mamba Files, we’ll be doing a bit of rehashing on previously covered topics. Why? Because this month’s focus is on what needs to change with future revisions of the Razer Mamba. Of course, you may not agree with all the points and changes proposed in this article, so be sure to tell us what you’d change in the comments!

When I first learned that Razer offered a set of upgraded teflon feet for the Mamba, I was a bit confused. Sure, it was cool that Razer gave you the option to upgrade the mouse, but at the same time, it feels a bit shady. If these feet are so great, then why aren’t they included with the Mamba in the first place? After all, it is Razer’s most expensive mouse, so is it too much to expect that it comes with the very best from Razer? No matter the case, it’s time to see if these replacement feet are worth the $10.

The Mamba Files: Month 7 – Maintenance

With any high-tech device comes the expectation of some little kinks that users must fix, adapt to, or otherwise remedy and the Mamba is certainly no exception. While the Mamba does have a nice warranty that is more than equipped to have this issues resolved, we’ll treat this article as if you bought the Mamba second-hand or the warranty has run out, thus forcing you to fix the issues yourself.

The Mamba Files: Month 6 – Buyer’s Guide

So, after six months with the Razer Mamba, I decided I would write up a bit of a buyer’s guide for anyone pondering the purchase of a Razer Mamba. See, on paper, the mouse seems amazing, but I hope to give some useful first-hand information for potential buyers.

This will seem quite like a review, but I will try to explain things more as if someone was buying it from me and asking details about my experience with it. So, with its gargantuan price tag, is this mouse worth the money?

The Mamba Files: Month 5 – Hindsight

In my gaming days before the Razer Mamba, I was using my 800 DPI Logitech MX Revolution. Since I’ve begun the Mamba testing, I have only used the MX Revolution a few times over the past five months. Now that I’m firmly acquainted with the Mamba, I returned to my MX Revolution for a few days and to see how it compared with the Mamba. So, in hindsight, how do I feel about the differences?

Of course, these two devices are hardly comparable except that they’re both wireless, but during my past time with the MX Revolution, I felt it was the best mouse I had ever used. So, after a long time away from the MX and all this time being spent with the Mamba so far, do I still have the same passion for the MX? Or will I just struggle through the dying relationship so that I can return quickly to the Mamba?

Razer RMA Process Update

Story continued from Mamba Files: Month 4 – The RMA Process.

On April 14th, two days after I notified Razer that I had received a faulty product as my RMA replacement, I receive a rather vague reply notifying me that a new unit has been shipped out. Don’t get me wrong, it was nice that Razer worked swiftly and did their best to remedy the situation as fast as possible, but it still felt very sterile and casual, as if this type of mix-up was nothing unusual for them.

This month on the Mamba Files we’re taking the series in a different direction. Instead of a focus on the Mamba itself, we’re going to focus on how well Razer’s RMA and customer support works and just how easy it is to get proper support and replacement for your faulty Razer products. And, of course, we’ll have a quality update on the Mamba at the end of the article.

The Mamba Files: Month 3

It’s something that many gamers tend to overlook, but it is something that has as much — if not more — effect on the device itself as the hardware and technology built into it. Drivers and firmware play a huge part in making or breaking today’s high-end products. So, how well does the Mamba’s software do the job? Let’s find out.
